Can cellphone cameras produce quality photography, or are they little more than a social tool for the masses? One man has made it his mission to prove to the world that equipment really isn't the most important aspect of photography.
Chase Jarvis of Seattle is on a rampage with his camera phone, and along the way he is changing the way we see mobile phone photography. In his book, The Best Camera is the One That's With You, Jarvis displays a number of cellphone shots that he's taken around the world. His philosophy? An image should be measured by how it effects its audience, not by its resolution or dynamic range.
This philosophy is put to work in his social media project, The Best Camera. The site serves as a gallery for some of the best cellphone photography out there. With the help of The Best Camera iPhone app, users can edit and upload their favorite cellphone images and add to the collection. It is currently the third most popular photography app, and sixteenth overall.
Still skeptical about the capabilities of an iPhone camera? Head to the site and check it out. It's hard to deny that people are churning out some incredible images. The app is only $2.99 and may be that little extra thing that your iphone camera was looking for... That and a new homemade lens. Go have some fun!
