20 years ago, Thomas and John Knoll licensed their pixel-imaging program that was originally called Display, with Adobe to create Photoshop.  The original software only displayed grayscale images on a black-and-white monitor and was given processing capabilities.    The original Photoshop 1.0 was for the Mac, and there were few key features, such as curves, levels, and a clone tool.  On February 19, 1990 the first version of Photoshop was shipped to customers.

As we mentioned previously, Apple has released their next generation photo management software called Aperture 3.  Almost immediately, there were complaints that there were bugs with the software where the software was crashing computer systems by taking all of its memory, and the facial recognition feature did not work as Apple claimed.  Apple has now released version 3.0.1 which is supposed to have worked out those problems, as well as many others.

Pentax, a leading supplier of innovative high-technology optical products, announced strangely 24 hours after the end of PMA the launch of the Pentax Optio W90.  The camera is said to be water, shock, and cold proof; and more importantly, it has two flashes.  There is one traditional flash above the camera lens, but then a second flash that is a ring around the lens.  Pentax announced the camera after PMA, even though they showcased their products at the event.  A strange marketing move by the company, though they are still getting attention from the announcement.

Photo editing software Aperture 3 was released by Apple just about two weeks ago, but customers are already complaining of problems.  The main issue customers are having is with the memory management device within the software.  As a result of the problem, as soon as the program is launched, the swap disk file size balloon comes up.  This means that the software has a memory leak that takes up most of the memory from a computer's hard drive.

On Tuesday, February 9th, Apple released it's next generation of photography workflow software, Aperture 3.   The software is a workflow of every step of the photography process (well, except the actual taking of the picture).  The software allows you to import your pictures, organize, side by side compare different shots, retouch and enhance, share, and then print all of your photos.  There is also the option to create custom photo albums with templates that are part of the software.   The features getting the most buzz are the face recognition and GPS location  features that were previously released as part of iPhoto '09.

After the press release from The Impossible Project was sent out stating that there is a delay in the development (no pun intended) of the instant film meant for Polaroid instant cameras, the question is: What does Polaroid do?  Along with the project, Polaroid decided to resurrect their instant film cameras and develop the PIC 1000, based on the classic Color 600 instant film camera.  The Impossible Project is focusing all of their efforts on the issue that they encountered, hoping that a 1 month delay will be enough time to say whether the project is now possible.  We're all hoping for a positive result, and that the event in New York City held by the Impossible Project will announce the success of the product.

Back in January, we brought you the news that the instant film that made Polaroid popular (and that was discontinued in 2008) was being brought back by a group who called themselves The Impossible Project.  The group set out to reinvent instant film, seeing as some important components of Polaroid's version were discontinued and becoming too expensive.  This was no easy task.  With a time limit of one year, it seemed as though the group would be successful.  They had found that components of existing film and some new components could actually produce an improvement over Polaroid's integral film.  With excitement surrounding this project, Polaroid even decided to resurrect their instant film camera and production of the film was supposed to start at the beginning of this year.  The Impossible Project had an event planned for this month in New York City for the big unveiling.  Well, unfortunately, due to some issues, a press release has gone out stating that the event will be postponed, and until then, the future of The Impossible Project is uncertain.
