Canon has announced its fifth annual contest that lets you win prizes for those summer memories. The Photography in the Park contest is underway and is accepting entries until September 30th that showcase your inspiring wildlife images from any local, city, county, State, or National park or any National Monument. 18 lucky winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd place and "honorable mentions") in two categories (teen and adult) will be awarded Canon camera prizes, while two incredibly lucky grand prize winners will be sent to the National Park of his or her choice, be put up for 5 nights in a hotel, given airfare, and take home a Canon EOS 5D MarkII and a printer.

Last week the Sony World Photography Awards were announced at the awards ceremony held at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France. A total of 12 photographers won in various categories and the prestigious L'Iris d'Or Photographer of the Year was also awarded. The winners were chosen by 12 World Photographic Academy members and the winners were flown to Cannes, treated with accommodations, and will receive a gift from Sony. The Photographer of the year was awarded with $25,000 and will become a member of the World Photographic Academy.

Blurb, an on-demand photography book publisher, has announced the third annual Photography Book Now competition where one lucky photographer will win $25,000 sponsored by HP. There are three categories for entry, fine art, editorial, and portfolio. The winners of each category will win an "ultimate camera package" that includes a Sony DSLR-A850 camera and accessories. To date it is the largest creative magazine in the world in highlighting graphic design, advertising, illustration, photography and interactive design. Entries after the March 26th deadline will be accepted for an additional fee, with the final cutoff to be April 9th. Each year Communication Arts has six competitions that include all aspects of visual communications.
The Smithsonian Magazine has announced the 50 finalists for their 7th Annual Photo Contest. The top 10 photos were chosen from these five categories: Altered Images, Americana, The Natural World, People and Travel. Entries began pouring in around this time last year, and were cut off December 1, 2009. To qualify, photographs must have been shot within the past three years. Category winners are expected to be announced over the next few months.

Every year the UK National History Museum organizes the National History Museum Wild Life Photographer of the Year award every year. The winner of the Contest is awarded 10,000 GBP approximately $16,600. This years contest had 43,000 entries and the photograph of the wolf jumping over the fence won!!! No doubt the photograph is incredible. I mean it's not everyday that one sees a wolf jumping over the fence. Recently, the judges found out the photograph is a fake and want to revoke the award from Photographer Jose Luis Rodriguez.

Justin is an aspiring photographer based in Seattle, Washington. He likes shooting landscapes and cities. And he has recently become very fond of HDR photography.
