Probably not the news the photography community had hoped for in 2010, but camera prices aren’t expected to drop too much lower. IDC’s now estimates the average selling price of cameras in 2010 to be roughly $154. This number is down somewhat from last year’s average of $157.
Beyond the announcement of the release of the S8000 and S6000, Nikon announced an additional 6 cameras to add to the COOLPIX line. Nikon announced on Tuesday eight new additions to their COOLPIX line. Two cameras making the biggest splash are the S8000 and S6000, the world's thinnest in their camera class. The camera specs boast wide angle zoom, high resolution, and improved shooting performance. Both cameras are equipped with NIKKOR high-power zoom lenses, faster power-up time and shooting response.
In addition to the products themselves, the manufacturing process of Nikon products is extremely rigorous. According to some of Nikon’s action guidelines, the process in which the products are created, "use materials and equipment that are effective in protecting the environment, strive to develop and improve technologies in this area, and work to minimize environmental burdens." Green conscious consumers should have no doubt or worry if they are considering purchasing a Nikon brand device, as the company has already gone to extreme measures to minimize any future environmental footprints for their products.
A larger number of different brands are starting to follow the trend of going green and becoming environmentally friendly. However, many notable, established brands have been devoted to being green under the radar for many years. One of these brands includes the Nikon Corporation, which is well known for their line of cameras and other optics and imaging products. (Although it is probably a brand that is most synonymous with high end, SLR and DSLR cameras, the company also produces binoculars and microscopes, among other products.) Since 1992, it has had in place what they call the "Nikon Basic Environmental Management Policy" and have been committed to improving the environment, both locally and globally.
