Skyfire announced the launch of Skyfire Rocket, a B2B product that helps mobile OEMs and carriers in the integration of its reputed rich media and video capabilities into third-party browsers and apps. Using its cloud computing technology, Skyfire fixes many of the major problems that occur with mobile video. According to a press release, adaptive video features, data compression and optimization, better battery life and power surfing are said to be the highlighting features of Skyfire Rocket.
Rocket helps to minimize the mobile bandwidth that is needed for users to access videos when they are on the move. This is considered to be one of the major advantages of Skyfire Rocket, as videos explosion has led to network congestion and poor download speeds across the U.S. and Europe. As predicted by Cisco’s Visual Networking Index study projects, by the year 2014, 69% of mobile data traffic will be due to video usage. So, Rocket has a great scope in the future, as it promises to compress videos by 75% so that the heavy congestion in mobile networks will be reduced considerably.
Jeffrey Glueck, CEO of Skyfire described the new product as being the first technology that can create a network-friendly full internet browser. The CEO added, "By allowing carriers and OEMs to embed Skyfire's technology into their existing native browsers, rather than replacing them, Skyfire is making it easy to deploy adaptive video data delivery. With Skyfire Rocket, mobile operators and device OEMs can deliver the web video experience that consumers are demanding."
