You may have heard of Trash the Dress, a growing trend in wedding photography where a model or a bride will destroy a wedding dress in a photo shoot, often following the ceremony. Well, the Worcester Photography Center here in Massachusetts has made a yearly get together of it.
On Saturday, 35 photographers gathered at Oakland Beach in Rhode Island, and with the help of 25 models and 3 make-up artists, they destroyed 25 dresses. The event is the Center's second Trash the Dress. The first was in 2007 and was thought up by Teya Rutherford, a renowned wedding and portrait photographer who has since moved to Orange County, California.
The Center is the brainchild of Scott Erb, who organizes a number of meetups for local photographers ranging from sessions in parks or at sporting events, to gallery openings and critique nights. It sounds like a great way to get together with others in your field and compare notes.
And as far as Trash the Dress is concerned, I can't think of a better thing to do in a wedding dress than take a dip in the ocean, except for maybe getting married. But going to the beach looks like a lot more fun!
