Fare/Share, a U.S. based company has developed a smartphone app that allows taxi riders of New York City an alternative to riding it alone (expensive & fast) or taking a train (cheap & slow). In a nutshell, users can share taxis on-the-go. The application features one-click ride requests, a cab fare calculator, Paypal integration and a simple yes/no feedback system.
Fare/Share has the opportunity to play a significant role in improving the city’s vision of promoting cab sharing among New York City residents. The mobile app has allowed people to stay connected with nearby riders traveling to any destination in or around the city on a 24 x 7 basis. Co-founder Peter Hanna said, “Fare/Share gives NewYorkers complete control over when and where they share a cab, as well as whom they share the cab with.”
The Fare/Share app isn’t available yet, though we are excepting it to be submitted to Apple for inclusion in the Apple App Store this week. Android users can also expect to see it in the Android Market soon as well. At any rate this app has all the features to succeed- feature rich, free, and it’s quick to create an account. Below are some screenshots. Although this isn’t a final version, it will give you a preview of what to expect.
Choose your destination (note: only a general vicinity is required as cabs are permitted to make multiple stops at no additional cost)
