Nikon D3s and a DX Marco lens ta boot!

Amvona Blog       14 Oct, 2009 | by EmilyK

Looks like Nikon is getting release happy this week, and we in the photo world say "bring it on!" So get comfy and we'll take a gander at the new D3s DSLR and the DX macro lens.

The long rumored D3s, the next evolution of the D3 released two years ago, has finally made its way into the hands of the reviewers. The conclusion? Hold onto your hats because this baby's got six figures worth of ISO.

The D3s uses a seven stop IOS range of 200 to 12,800 which results in an ISO of 102,400. This allows the D3s to do wonders in low light situation. Add to the HD video capture that uses this high ISO, and features in-camera editing, and you have a pretty powerful piece of equipment.

The D3s is  priced at $200 more than its predecessor at $5,199.95 and will be out by the end of November. The next step up is the D3x is $7,995.95, and has a bigger CMOS sensor, but no video. Take a look at some more comparisons here.

Also out this week is the first ever macro lens in Nikon's DX series. The AF-S DX Micro Nikkor 85 mm f3.5G ED VR II has a 1:1 reproduction ratio and can focus as close as 28cm (11-ish"). It also comes with the VR II system which allows the shooter to see a steady image in the view finder which is very handy especially for shooting video.

The lens is  $529.95 and is due out in time for Christmas. With all these Nikon goodies, it looks like it is time to start pestering Santa with your list.
