Most cell phone cameras are pretty limited when it comes to lens attachments. One thrifty Do-It-Yourselfer has discovered a way to transform an old DVD player into a macro lens for your cell phone.
First grab your old dvd player, or pick one up for cheap at your local thrift store. Carefully remove that little lens that helps reads your dvd. Don't worry, once you get in there you'll see it... make sure to unplug it first though. I don't want any crispy readers this week!
Once you have the lens in hand, you've got to find a way to mount it on your cell phone. The original author recommends a combination of duct tape and cardboard. Another poster got all fancy and used band-aids. I was thinking some stickers would be spiffy.
Anywho, in the end you are left with a marco lens for you cell phone that delivers some pretty cool results. I think that the lens from an old cd player might be a cheaper alternative to a dvd player. I'll try it out and let you know the results.
