Two friends, who live across the country from each other, are taking the staycation to a whole other level. Thanks to the expansive collection of geotagged photos online, Marc Horowitz and Pete Baldes are taking a road trip... from the comfort of their desk chairs.
Horowitz and Baldes are making their way from LA to Virginia using Google Maps street view. Along the way, they have stopped off at a number of locations, with the help of Flickr and YouTube. Best of all, they recorded the whole thing thanks to a live stream and their web cams.
This whole expedition would not be possible if it were not for the copious amount of geotagged photos available online. Where as we used to live vicariously though the vacation photographs of our friends and relatives, now we have access to snap shots from people all around the world. In a sunken economy, this may be the new answer for those that can't afford to travel. What a world we live in... where long-distance friends can go to far away places, essentially for free.
Then again, I think I'd rather spend my vacation at the park down the street than at my computer seeing the country. Doesn't anyone go outside anymore?
