Flickr is losing Photos!

Amvona Blog       05 Aug, 2009 | by EmilyK

Morgan from Taipei had his Flickr account hacked and his over 3,000 photos deleted.  Now he's on a rampage!

Morgan's biggest beef with the site is their terrible customer service, hence the rather strongly worded icon on his tumblr post. His request for help went unanswered and eventually he used a personal connection. He even tried to contact Yahoo, who owns Flickr, and was told they could not help him.

It seems like Morgan should have been more prepared with an external backup because this is not the first time this has happened. Earlier this year, Flickr deleted one man's photos due to critical comments he made on the President's Flickr stream.

Keep in mind that both of these cases took place with premium flickr users. They were paying the site to serve as a safe haven and backup for their work. While it seems unreasonable to expect a social networking site to keep backups of the material uploaded to their site, since Flickr markets a pro account it should think about adding more security.

The lesson here? Trust no one! Backup your photos on a hard copy, not just online. Also, Yahoo stinks. Try Flekt instead.
