Bush-Cheney Searching for Online Pals

Amvona Blog       14 Aug, 2009 | by EmilyK

I was laughing along to John Stewart this morning, over my coffee and a bagel, when what does he bring up but social networking. And whooooo, you might ask, has joined this online phenomenon now? Why none other than the former Bush administration.

The Bush-Cheney Alumni Association is an online hub where former staff can keep in touch with updates and exclusive invites. The site also encourages members, since "We were there," to bond together to set the record straight.

It looks like Tony Fratto, former deputy press secretary, is the brains behind the operation. He told politico that they are leading the way technologically as far as former administrations go. It should be noted that the Clinton Alumni Group on Facebook has about 300 more members than the G.W. Bush equivalent.

This whole thing is a funny venture considering G.W. himself was known for his computer illiteracy. But hey, I like to get on the "internets" and pull up maps on "The Google" too. Explain to me again the argument behind anti-intellectualism...

Who knew that former Whitehouse staffers needed their own social network to keep in touch? My only question is, how many people are going to be carefully monitoring what is said on this site. We all know the Bush-Cheney policy on wire-tapping. Whether you agree with that policy or not, this site may not be  the best place to reminisce about the good ol' days. That's what secret meetings in the park are for...

What does this say for social networking? I think this post sums up my feelings on it. Change is coming to the not-so-wild west that is the World Wide Web. I smell it in the wind... along with the stench of rotting politicians. Mmmmm.
